Grandma's Buns

Sorry, but that is what they are called... Grandma's Buns. My mother-in-law has a wonderful recipe for rolls that she has made for 40 years. Our family loves them, so I used to make them all the time. And, we had to name them what Grandma called them... Buns. Not rolls, buns. Like, "Sweetheart, would you like another roll to go with your lasagna?" Nope. It was always, "Sweetheart, would you like another bun to go with your lasagna?" So, what choice did we have? They are Grandma's Buns.

I made a batch last week and took a picture for you. It is a great recipe to make dinner rolls, hamburger-style buns, cinnamon rolls, pizza crust or, one of our favorites, fried bread. I know that you will love it, too.

Grandma’s Buns
5 ¾- 6 ¾ cups flour
1/3 cup instant powdered milk
¼ cup sugar
1 Tablespoon salt
2 packages yeast (2 Tablespoons)
1/3 cup softened butter
2 cups hot water
Mix 2 cups flour, all dry ingredients and butter. Add water and beat in a mixer for 2 minutes. Add rest of flour and mix well. Dough will clean the sides of the mixing bowl.  Knead until smooth. Cover and let raise for 45-60 minutes. Roll out about 1/2" thick and cut into circles for sandwiches (hamburger bun size) or roll into balls for dinner rolls. (Makes great cinnamon rolls, pizza crust or fried bread) Let raise 45- 60 minutes. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 – 20 minutes.
