I LOVE the beach!
But, it is a very different beach in Washington and Oregon from the beaches here in Texas.
The day that we went it was overcast, a light drizzly rain was falling
and it was 65 degrees in the middle of July!
First, we went to Astoria, OR to have tuna fish and chips at the Bow Picker. It is a little boat that is on the hill across the street from the Maritime Museum. It has a deck build on one side where the customers stand to pick up their orders.
It is excellent fish and chips! It doesn't have a strong tuna taste and the batter is light and crisp. Perfect!
The Bow Picker in Astoria, OR.
Then we took our fish and chips up to the Astoria Column to eat them with a view. I neglected to take a picture of the view. I will see if one of my sisters will share one of theirs and then post it for you. I only took a picture of myself with the Astoria Column in the background. That was hard to do! I have never taken a picture of myself like the before. It was an experiment and I am not sure if it was success.
Then we went farther sound on the Oregon Coast to
Cannon Beach, OR.
It is a wonderful beach and delightful on a nice day.
This is Cannon Beach, OR. You can see Haystack Rock there in the background. It wasn't such a nice day.
This is my Mom. You can tell that it is cold!
Then we went to a cute quilt store, Center Diamond, in Cannon Beach,
Don't you love the red flowers?
It is a fun store with a lot of beach themed fabrics as well as bright, quirky fabrics.
It is one of my sister's favorite stores for that reason.
Then we drove back north to Long Beach, WA. It is my most favorite beach. I started going there when I was in grade school and I still love to go there.
I didn't take any pictures this year of Marsh's Museum or the Cottage Bakery or of the main street or of the new quilt store. It is an old-fashioned and quaint town. A step back in time, I think.
But, we did go to the Cottage Bakery and I was able to buy a Devil Dog (a donut in the shape of a hot dog bun that is filled with cream and topped with chocolate glaze). I love them but I rarely get to eat them because they are always sold out by the time that I get there. So, we bought our donuts and drove down to the beach and parked to watch the waves while we ate. Of course, sea gulls began to surround us. And one was bold enough to sit on the hood of our car.
I've got my eye on you!
We don't spend a lot of time walking at the beach. My Mom can't walk in the sand so we don't stay very long but my sisters and I walked down to the ocean and got our feet wet in the very cold water. I will have to ask for a copy of that, too, from my sisters. I am not very good at remembering to take pictures, am I?
It was a fun, relaxing time at the beach... eating, going to quilt stores and bakeries and little shops
and a little bit of time at the beach.
I LOVE the beach!
and a little bit of time at the beach.
